Campo Ramón Itinerary

Day 1

The whale watching trip via private chartered plane begins in San Diego.  Meet at the Hacienda Hotel in Old Town, San Diego. Upon checking into the hotel, ask the front desk staff for a Baja Expeditions Welcome Letter that contains important trip information. Cross the border in style on a luxury bus to the private air strip in Tijuana, where our Cessna Caravan awaits to whisk you off to the San Ignacio Lagoon. Nothing compares to the beautiful vistas seen flying down the peninsula.

When you arrive at camp, enjoy some time bird watching as almost 200 species of  coastal wetland birds such  as pelicans, egrets, herons, ibis, ospreys roost and nest around the lagoon.  After a Happy Hour and delicitable dinner, your guide will provide you with the daily schedule, logistics of camp, and natural history information.

Day 2 – 4

After feasting on a freshly prepared Mexican breakfast, each day at camp includes 2 boat trips in pangas (skiffs) to see the whales.  Each trip lasts about 2 hours where your guide will explain the behaviors of whales.  In between the fabulous excursions and connecting eye to eye with the grey whales, enjoy lunch and a stroll along the beach or relax with a book from the library.

After your second panga trip, relax with a cold beer, glass of wine, or margarita during our famous Happy Hour and watch as the red, orange, and blue hues of the setting sun cast over the water.   Then gorge yourself on the extensive choices from dinner buffet.  There are always vegetarian and gluten free options for those with special dietary restrictions.

Day 5

Enjoy breakfast before saying goodbye and leaving your gratuity with the crew.  Baja Expeditions will transfer you back to the landing strip to board your private chartered cessna.  Spend the night again in San Diego before leaving for home.  Once home, please send us your most memorable photos so we can share with everyone from the trip on Facebook.

Visit the coastal and riparian environments of Loreto, home to the Blue-footed Booby, Cactus Wren, and the endemic Xantus Hummingbird and Grey Thrasher. Cross through the Vizcaíno Desert where Crested Caracaras, Red-tailed and Harris’s Hawks fill the skies to the palm-lined oasis town of San Ignacio. Come eye-to-eye with the world’s friendliest whales from our skiff in the protected waters of the San Ignacio Lagoon. Trips start in San Diego and end in Loreto or vice versa.
